Genius

Found this as I was reading Man and His Symbols today:

"The ability to reach a rich vein of such material and translate it
effectively into philosophy, literature, music, or scientific discovery is
one of the hallmarks of what is commonly called genius."

Quotes of My Day

"The pursuit of knowledge is never ending. The day you stop
seeking knowledge is the day you stop growing."
-Brandon Travis Ciaccio

"Knowledge has to be improved, challenged,
and increased constantly, or it vanishes."

An Update...

So we are currently past the half way point in the semester now and I have been able to survive the 20 credit hour schedule. All A's and B's so far with the exception of statistics. Not my favorite class so the grade reflects that; however, I am still passing the course just fine. Macroeconomics has become my favorite class and has really intrigued my interest. after learning about the classical, neo-classical, and Keynesian theories I actually rented a new book from the library. It is called The Economic Consequences of the Peace (1919) is a book written and published by John Maynard Keynes. So far it is a great book and I'll link to the Wikipedia page below. Other than school, I still work part time at Kolhs in Columbus and volunteer my time in the chemistry labs at Ohio University Zanesville. I also just started dating a girl that I work with at Kolhs and after going out on a couple of dates, everything is going fantastic. almost ready for the holiday break, and have to say I am ready to take the break and relax for a couple of weeks. Now I'm off to take my third test in my Medical Addministration course. Wish me luck...

New Publication

Hey everyone, just a heads up I have a new research article that was just published in the journal of Green and Sustainable Chemistry. Below is the link to the paper. Enjoy! Special thanks to my advisor on the project, Dr. Abu-Baker.

Growth of Genius

"Persons of genius, it is true, are, and are always likely to be, a small minority; but in order to have them, it is necessary to preserve the soil in which they grow. Genius can only breathe freely in an atmosphere of freedom. Persons of genius are, ex vi termini, more individual than any other people- less capable, consequently, of fitting themselves, without hurtful compression, into any of the small number of moulds which society provides in order to save its members the trouble of forming their own character."

Advice for the Young

"Here are some simple pieces of advice for the young.
Don’t drink on an empty stomach: the main point of the refreshment is the enhancement of food.
Don’t drink if you have the blues: it’s a junk cure.
Drink when you are in a good mood.
Cheap booze is a false economy.
It’s not true that you shouldn’t drink alone: these can be the happiest glasses you ever drain.
Hangovers are another bad sign, and you should not expect to be believed if you take refuge in saying you can’t properly remember last night.
(If you really don’t remember, that’s an even worse sign.)
Avoid all narcotics: these make you more boring rather than less and are not designed –as are the grape and the grain— to enliven company.
Be careful about up-grading too far to single malt Scotch: when you are voyaging in rough countries it won’t be easily available.
Never even think about driving a car if you have taken a drop.
It’s much worse to see a woman drunk than a man: I don’t know quite why this is true but it just is. Don’t ever be responsible for it."

As I read Christopher Hitchens' memoir today, Hitch 22, I came across a section of text that I found to be distracting and beautifully written. He was writing in relation to becoming an American citizen. The documents he speaks of, are known as the Constitution of the United States and other governmental papers, which lay out the the idea of a free people's nation. He follows this by talking about the evolution of the amendments over many decades, from the 13th all the way through to the 22nd.

"For a writer to become an American is to subscribe of his own free will to a set of ideas and principles and to the documents that embody them in written form, all the while delightedly appreciating that the documents can and often must be revised, so that the words therefore constitute, so to say, a work in progress."

Just learned today that my research will be published in a peer reviewed journal. Link and citations will be posted as soon as I receive them from the publisher.. Other than that, I have started a new job and after having a couple weeks to settle in, I can say that I rather enjoy my time there. I will be transferring back to Ohio University Zanesville in the fall. Also, working out has been going great and I will have to start looking for a new gym soon because the school gym will not be open to me over the summer. Any knowledge of good gyms in Columbus, Ohio would be helpful so leave a comment if you guys have a recommendation.

New paper will be getting put up here soon. Probably within the next week or so. It was written for my contemporary ethical issues course and should be an interesting read. Lots of tests within the next week as well so I will be busy studying for them.

A Thought

In the famous words of Christopher Hitchens, "Look how far the termites have come." This is what unchecked progressive ideology has let occur. The more I read into the state of Americans, in my generation, I find it disheartening to even say that this is my generation. These people are misbehaving children who want everything for free, and no self responsibility. This is how socialism spreads, which ultimately leads to totalitarianism. This misconstrued idea that we have no personal responsibility for our actions is misinformed. Placing the blame of our personal failures on the constructs of society and others is far easier, than to accept that we have failed ourselves. Projecting our problems onto the concept of big government, will lead to the striping away of American rights not because they are taken, but rather given away for a false sense of safety. Safety which can never be fully given. We see now the first amendment, which safe guards the right to free speech, is currently under-fire on university campuses. SJWs and other similar people wish to enact thought and word police, just to save some person's feelings. There is a difference between attacking a persons arguments and the physical person; this lesson must be learned. Universities, professors, and public leaders who have given into the threats and cries of these infant acting adults have in fact failed this generation/students in the greater perspective of the real world.

A Quote to Live By.

“Try your hardest to combat atrophy and routine. To question The Obvious and the given is an essential element of the maxim de omnius dubitandum.”

How Political Correctness Limits the Free Exchange of Ideas on Campus

This is a great lecture by Professor Gadd Saad. I highly stress that this video should be watched by all university students who wish to create and facilitate academic diversity in their universities of choice. Make sure to like the video at the end to support.

My favorite quote. I keep this above my desk; a constant reminder that being a follower is not a favorable characteristic. "Take the risk of thinking for yourself, much more happiness, truth, beauty, and wisdom will come to you that way." -Christopher Hitchens
